After this experience I found that the work done behind the scenes of a photo shoot is truly a test of combining your talent with patience, timing, and improvisation. The day started at 8 am. I am pretty tired from having recurring thoughts late in the night about how the shoot was going to turn out. My mind raced through the looks over and over again. Before I knew it, Ashlee DiPrisco the model arrived at the shoot location and I was getting her made up for the Casual Catalog look. Things really felt like they were flowing. Lorian Lindsay, the Designer and Choreographer of the shoot was on top of it. She had all of the accessories, as well as photos the looks, types of poses, and angles of shots she wanted laid out so we all knew what her vision was. She had everything well planned.
I have to say that the line was beautiful and full of garments that I would find myself wearing. The best part was that the material was all made out of 100% silk! During some of the breaks Lorian would share with us the patterns and the process of going through designing a fashion line and it really is amazing how much you take clothing and fashion for granted. I have to admit that I learned quite a bit after the first full day on the set. By the time we accomplished catalog shots of all 13 garments in two different looks -casual and glamorous - I was looking forward to day two!
Day two of the shoot was an outdoor shoot in the woods of San Francisco. We started the shoot at 6:00 AM. This is because the lighting and setting that Lorian was looking to have for the shoot was a light blue sky that is only created at sunrise. I have to admit - although it was cold and rainy, the sky looked so amazing and was much worth the waking up early for. Nonetheless, we did day two of the shoot all outdoors and despite the bad weather it turned out awesome. It was amazing seeing Ashlee the model work with her surroundings to create great poses and Andrea Rowe, the photographer, was getting some incredible shots. Lorian and I worked hard to keep Ashley looking beautiful although it was very brisk, wet conditions. The Make-up became a challenge at times when Ashley’s skin color turned almost white because she was so cold and her nose and cheeks turned bright red. I did my best to try and keep this under control. It was a good thing that we kept a car close so she could warm up between each frame.
Overall, the shoot was a success. I felt as though everyone worked really hard, and it was because each of us had a major appreciation for our roles in the shoot, and also, we all had an appreciation for Lorian Lindsay and her fashion skills. I honestly cannot wait to see her clothes in boutiques because she has a great eye for classic, beautiful style. My favorite item in her collection was her Black Jacket. This is ideal for mountain living as well as city life. She was able to create a comfortable coat that also could be worn with any occasion. Its truly classy and I cannot wait to buy one for myself!
